Strafford Broadband

Strafford Broadband
Broadband, in the form of high-speed fixed wireless, has now officially become available to many addresses in Strafford. We have an agreement with Strafford in which we are setting up infrastructure, and are giving residents discounted rates. If you are interested give us a call at 603-298-9000.

Costs
How much will this cost you and what do you get for it? Monthly rates Residential: $39.95 per month with one-year prepaid contract $44.95 per month with quarterly prepaid contract Business: $69.95 per month with one-year prepaid contract $74.95 per month with quarterly prepaid contract All of these monthly rates are $20 less than WaveComm’s standard monthly rates. Installation Cost Standard: $99.00 – includes up to 4 hours of labor, 25’ of cable, one computer (This is $100 less than WaveComm’s standard installation rate.) Custom: $45 per additional connection, or $65.00 per hour WaveComm offers a 30-day money back guarantee, in case you find that the service doesn’t meet your expectations.

Features
Basic Services You can use the service on a single computer or with all the computers on a local network (LAN). Some LAN reconfiguration may be required to accomplish this, with which WaveComm can assist, within the constraints described above. WaveComm can also supply a wireless router for $99, including installation. E-mail is available from WaveComm at no additional costs, including 5 email addresses with 25 MB of storage space per address, WebMail for access from any internet-connected computer, virus protection, and SPAM blocking. Additional e-mail accounts available at $1.95 per month. If you prefer, you can keep your email address from your current provider – though if you continue using your current provider you will also be billed by them. Beyond a limited initial setup, WaveComm does not offer networking services. If requested, WaveComm can recommend several local network specialists to you. WaveComm service does not include web page space or FTP. WaveComm provides technical support by telephone/pager (800-928-3266) and e-mail (techsupport@wavecomm.com). You can also prepare yourself for possible interruptions by reading and storing their self-help guidelines, available on their website. Business Service For the extra cost of Business Service, in addition to the higher data rates, you get access to: 1. VPN (Virtual Private Network), which provides a secure connection to a company’s LAN. This is required by many telecommuters. 2. VOIP (Voice over Internet Protocol, e.g. Vonage, Skype), which allows you to use the Internet as a phone line. 3. Static IP address - Not available at all locations.

Service
In order to be served, you have to be in sight of an access point. There are three Access Points in Strafford so far, and a fourth is planned for installation soon. Between them, they provide (according to computer terrain modeling) access to about 300 addresses around the town. The east and west ends of town are least covered. The committee and WaveComm are looking for more access point sites so that we can cover more of the town. To find out if you can get connected and to sign up, contact WaveComm. The simplest way is to fill out their online sign-up form at www.wavecomm.com. You can also call them at (800) 928-3266 or send an e-mail to sales@wavecomm.com . If you sign up today, you can expect to be connected in about a week, assuming you are in a covered area (the “viewshed” of an access point). A standard installation usually can be completed in less then 2 hours. Installations will continue through the winter months. If you are not in a viewshed, keep in touch with WaveComm and the Broadband Committee to see when an Access Point might be found near you. WaveComm will periodically post its progress and plans on their website. If you have a high-altitude site, please consider contacting WaveComm about using your location for an Access Point. An access point tower is about as obtrusive as a flagpole – without the flag! In return, WaveComm will give you free broadband service.
